Rescues

As an organization that operates solely on a foster network, we can only take in a very limited number of animals.

We are very aware that most shelters and organizations are often at capacity and that it can be frustrating to send messages and always get a negative response.

This page was created to ensure a better success rate for applications. You will be able to see if we have spaces available and see exactly which animals we take on as well as examples of cases we routinely turn down.

When our rescues are closed and our spots are filled, we are able to refer you when it is a matter of life or death because we work in partnership with several other Canadian organizations that we trust. We invite you to contact us even if our rescues are closed to receive referrals.

**IMPORTANT** LES ARISTOPATTES specializes in medical cases and only takes animals that need care. If the animal for which you are applying is in good health or if it is an animal abandoned due to moving, lack of time, or allergies (for example), we will not be able to take them in. We advise you to ask your friends and family before giving up your animal to an organization.

Re-homing can be a very disorienting and stressful experience for an animal, as they do not know why their environment is changing, so please consider all other options before surrendering them to strangers. The animal often regresses medically or behaviorally when moved, making adoption more difficult.

Euthanasia should only be an option if the animal’s prognosis is poor, even with veterinary treatment, and/or its quality of life is poor. If the animal is relatively healthy or is under the care of a veterinarian, surrendering to a reputable organization is still the best option to give your pet the second chance it deserves.

Our rescue department is currently OPEN

We only take in animals with health issues or that require care. It is therefore impossible for us to take in an animal that has been abandoned due to moving, lack of time, or allergies, for example.

Examples of what we take in:

  • Foreign bodies
  • Wounds
  • Pyometra (infection of the uterus)
  • Malformations/amputations
  • Parvovirus
  • Head trauma
  • Dystocia (difficulty in childbirth)
  • Infections
  • Puppies/Children less than 12 weeks old
  • Poisoning
  • Fractures
  • Etc.
  • The animal must have been seen by a veterinarian (at least for an examination) and the medical file must be provided to us with the application. This allows us to know if we can offer quality care to the animal and also allows us to verify with our veterinarians what the options are for the animal.
  • The animal must have a good long-term prognosis if it receives the necessary care. Please note that we are against over-treatment.
  • Once your animal is entrusted to our organization, a surrender contract will have to be signed. It will therefore be IMPOSSIBLE for you to reclaim or adopt the animal.
  • The animal will be put up for adoption once it is back on its feet. It will then be impossible for you to have news of him.
  • Depending on our budget and available space, we reserve the right to transfer the animal to another trusted organization or to work as a team with one of them.
